Summer Holidays - Opening Hours

The Summer Holidays are here. The relaxed feel to this time of year is something we all look forward too. The children have finished school, day's out are planned come rain or shine. When I was younger we had a rainy day box filled with things that kept us entertained when we stayed at home. We'd make miniature gardens using an old tin tray and collages using the Christmas Quality Street Wrappers my Mum kept. Me and my brothers and sister would hold the wrapper to the window and look at all the different colours. Summer is also a great opportunity to teach the children/grandchildren to sew. These Button Bag Kits are a great introduction. At only £4 each they'll make a great afternoon activity.

- Mini Cross stitch & Felt Kits, as seen in John Lewis -

For children who'd like to use a sewing machine these Machine Star Kits are perfect for ages 7 upwards. With an easy to use pattern & instructions your child can make Skirts, Bags & Bedroom tidies - £8 each -

If you'd like to have a go at making a little girls skirt or dress this summer why not purchase the new Compagnie M patterns. This beautiful dress has been made using the Lotta Dress pattern age 1 -10yrs & Moda fabrics. Patterns priced at £13.

I hope you all have a great start to the Summer Holidays. I'm heading off on Sunday for my holiday's. We're travelling through Europe by train for 2 weeks. I'm very excited. I have a couple of sewing projects to take along. I'm making a start on my "Nobbly Bobbly" quilt. It's my own design inspired by this classic ice lolly, it involves mini hexi's (more info to come). I just can't put it down. I'm also taking some linen blend fabric to embroider the places I visit. I managed to get some linen embroidery threads in a soft colour palette, mmm. I'll just need to remember to look out the window :)

My lovely sister in law - Mandy - will be taking over The Little Fabric Store in my absence. Here are the Opening hours from Tuesday 28th July:

Closed: 27th, 28th & 30th July

Louth In Bloom

Louth In Bloom is here on Thursday 16th July. It's a great opportunity to decorate the town and celebrate the summer season. With a selection of bright summer fabrics available now is a better time than ever to make that summer dress or bunting for the garden. Summer quilts are perfect for picnics and Linen blend make great seat cushions. Summer here we come :)

This appliqué sign was made using a selection of Moda fabrics in bright oranges, yellows & blues. Just the colours for the summer.

- Compagnie M Lotta Skirt is a size small -

- The talented Abigail Noble Art  Brooches are now available -

- Paper Pom Poms make an effective decoration -

Some of you may remember my last window display was Beach themed. I'd been making Yo-Yo's for my Barnacle Quilt. Jane Brocket's book "The Gentle Art of Stitching" has the pattern. Here is the finished quilt.

- I've sewn the Yo-Yo's together so they have no backing. I'm happy with the results especially in it's new home on the back of the chair -

- This is a photo taken on my living room floor, I've arrange the Yo-Yo's to meet in the middle. I love the effect it gives -

- This is my favourite photo, they really do look like Limpets or Barnacles :) -

So what ever you have planed for the Summer I hope you manage to have a bit of sewing in your life. Some one told me recently "sewing feeds your soul", I can  definitely agree with that.

Create a Summer Wardrobe

The sun is out, summer is here. This time of year for me is all about dressmaking. I have a great selection of dress patterns that are also highlighted in the new Sew Magazine, as well as an advert of my own, very exciting!!!

- The New Vintage Shirt Dress Pattern by Sew Over It -
- Tilly & the Buttons Agnes - on order -

- The Little Fabric Store's first national advert -

My new window display is daisy themed for the up and coming Louth in Bloom (16th July). I've made Compagnie M's Lotta Skirt which is now displayed in the window. I really enjoyed using this pattern & love the overall look of the skirt. I used American Jane's - Fresh Air - and a plain blue fabric for the pocket lining. I really like the pocket detail. A daisy skirt for my daisy themed window.

Compagnie M patterns are priced at £13, this pattern comes in age 1-10yrs & 12-14yrs along with xxs-xxl. A perfect skirt for summer.

- The Lotta Skirt, I'm really happy with the fit -

Sew Over It's newest pattern the
Vintage Shirt Dress - £14 -

This is me modelling the Top version of Sew Over It's Shift Dress. I used Dashwood Studio's Petite St.

- A selection of Sew Over It Patterns available -
The Ultimate Shift Dress, 1940's Tea Dress, Betty Dress,
Ultimate Wrap Dress & the Vintage Shirt Dress

out of the Kate & Birdie's Story Book Collection.

So while the weather is warm why not make a wonderful summer wardrobe. The great thing about making your own clothes is no one else will be wearing the same outfit, it'll be totally unique.

Enjoy the sun - Helen -
