Star Struck

Whilst on my Creative Journey I've quietly followed inspiring people through their blogs. I've never commented or made contact up until now. I recently took the plunge and contacted some of these creative folk and I was "Star Struck" when they responded. I couldn't stop smiling.

Since reading Mollie Makes Magazine, I was introduced to a world where I felt part of a Creative Community, which was global. By surrounding myself around creative happy people, either through the internet, magazines and sewing groups, I found it brought out the best in me.

Mollie Makes have some great articles and projects. I came across "Lola Nova" and loved her ideas using scraps of fabric. I was new to sewing and this seemed achievable, which was a relief for me! Alexandra blogs about crafting and her life in Portland, Oregon.

"Dottie Angel" is a Brit living in America, I love her style of writing. Tif makes Dresses to Dream for. Her collection inspired me to start dressmaking.

Posie Get's Cozy is written by Alicia Paulson who also lives in Portland, Oregon. I made her adorable "Miss Maggie Rabbit". Alicia's photography shows her warm and inviting home with home cooked food, beautifully knitted items and Liberty Patchwork Quilts.

I thank these lovely ladies who have helped me along the way. Who's helped you on your Creative Journey? Was it a relative, friend or sewing groups. I gave a talk to my local Widow's Group about The Little Fabric Store. They told me what they used to make and spoke of their mothers and grandmothers. There's a whole missed generation out there who have not been passed on this knowledge. If we can share what we know not only does it bring immense pleasure but also the joy of making for themselves and others.

Market Stall

Hi everyone, I've some fantastic news for The Little Fabric Store. I have a Market Stall in Louth for the whole month of October. Louth is a lovely Market Town not far from Grimsby. I'm really looking forward to meeting new customers and showcasing the ranges of Moda Fabric I have available. I'll be there every Saturday in October.

If you're thinking of making your own Jelly Roll Quilt here are some useful tips on how to use your Rotary Cutter correctly and Jelly Rolls that Moda supply. I'm hoping to stock these in the very near future.

New Quilt

I've started my new Quilt using fabric from the Winter's Lane Collection. The design I've gone for is a version of Log Cabin. Pam & Nicky Lintott have designed these Quilts using half a Jelly Roll (20 strips). Moda came up with the idea to make Quilts out of these strips as it's a great way of getting all the designs from a full collection.

Log Cabin Quilt

To make the strips, fold the width of your fabric in half and half again. This makes it easier to cut. The selvedge should be at the top and bottom of your fabric. The selvedge is the finished edges of the fabric. Using your self healing mat, rotary cutter and ruler cut 2 1/2 inches (6.5cm) strips in your chosen fabric. The length will be 44 inches (112cm) when cut. You will need 20 strips for the book shown or usually 40 for other Jelly Roll books on the market.

My strips cut in different designs of the collection

With my strips cut, I'm ready to plan my design. This can sometimes take a while. I usually lay them out on the floor and have a play around. It can take a few goes until you're happy with it. I'm looking forward to updating you with my design. Please get in touch if you have a questions - Helen -

Bunnies

Over the summer I've been making Bunnies. This first one is made from wool felt. It's great to work with and is very forgiving. Posie Gets Cozy is a blog written by Alicia Paulson from Portland Oregon. I love reading her blog, her photos and ideas are inspiring. This lovely little Bunny is Alicia's creation and can be purchased in kit form or PDF download. Click here to visit her site.

The second Bunny is knitted. It's great as you can knit a piece each night and put it together when they're all completed. Little Cotton Rabbits - Julie Williams, blogs about her knitted Bunnies. Julie has now issued the patterns to download to make your very own. Click here to visit her site.

Someone asked me who I was knitting/sewing these Bunnies for, the answer is "me". We're all a kid at heart and I'm often making things for other people. So it's nice to keep something for yourself. Although my kids think I'm nuts!!

Also, take a look at Barbara Prime's Fuzzy Thoughts she has a great starter knitted toy project to download for free.
